Terms of use

In short

Everything on this site is general information about U.S. immigration rules. It is not legal advice, and using the site does not make anyone your lawyer. By using the site you agree to these terms.

The articles, tables, checklists and FAQ on this site describe how published rules and policies work in general. They are not advice about your situation. Immigration law changes quickly and every case turns on its own facts. Before acting on anything you read here — and especially before a filing deadline or before leaving the United States — speak to a licensed immigration attorney.

2. No attorney-client relationship

Reading this site, using the contact form, or emailing us does not create an attorney-client relationship with anyone. Information you send us is not privileged.

3. Accuracy and currency

We write from primary sources — the Federal Register, the Code of Federal Regulations, USCIS and SEVP publications — and every page carries the date it was last updated. Even so, a page can be overtaken by events between checks. Check the date on any page before you rely on it. We do not warrant that any page is complete, current or error-free at the moment you read it.

4. Permitted use

You may read, print, link to and share the pages on this site for personal, educational and non-commercial purposes, with attribution. You may not republish the content as your own, use it to train a commercial product without our written permission, or use the site or its forms for any unlawful purpose.

5. Third-party sites

We link to government sources so you can check what we tell you. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or availability.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Student Visa America is not liable for any loss, missed deadline, denial, loss of status, or other consequence arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site. This does not limit any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

7. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows when they last changed.

8. Contact

Questions about these terms can be sent through the contact page.

Tell us what is happening

Give us your dates and your question. The more precisely you describe where you are in the process, the more useful our reply will be.
